Goodworks Message on Tragic Death of George Floyd:
We have all bore witness to recent events that have called national attention once more to the destructive powers of prejudice and racism. The tragic murder of George Floyd at the hands of the police is only our most recent example. At Goodworks we are horrified by the images and thoughts of the unconscionable acts that brought about his death. The demonstrations occurring all across this nation and our world have made it clear that communities are hurting and are beyond frustrated by the repeated acts of violence against their family, friends, and neighbors. This is just one of many examples of the pain caused by systemic injustices present every day. Within our organization we feel the pain of inter-generational and systemic trauma, and bare witness first hand to the workings of the criminal justice system.
These events underscore the critical importance of infusing equity, inclusion, and diversity into everything each of us does every day, with clearly articulated and tangible action. We must learn, reflect, and act for the greater good of our community.
